FAQ
Consignment vs. Resale vs. Thrift
- Consignment Stores sell your items for you. When sold, the store pays you a percentage of the selling price (usually 50% of the selling price) in cash or store credit, whichever you prefer. You make more money for your items by Consigning – but you will have to wait until your items get sold (within 60 days.) You will also know the selling price of your item, therefore you know exactly how much you are getting for it. For some items, the consignment store will ask you the selling price you want for them.
- Resale Stores buy your items upfront and pays either cash or store credit. With Resale, because the store is taking a chance on the selling price, you are paid considerably less for your items.
- Thrift Store is a “not for profit” store and is selling donated items. These stores are usually associated with a Church or Charity and must meet State Regulations to operate as a Thrift store.
Why do you require my items on hangers?
We ask that your items come in clean and wrinkle-free. We store and display all clothing on hangers so that they look just as good as when you drop them off. Having your items on hangers also makes it easier for Restyle to inspect them at drop-off. If you are out of hangers, just stop by the store and we will give you all the hangers that you need.
Why didn’t you accept my items?
It could be any or a combination of the following reasons:
• Out of season or style
• Damaged
• It has stain, dust, pet hair
• It has an odor (usually cigarette, moth ball, perfume)
• Not on a hanger
• No brand/size tag
• The brand is not the kind that does well in our store
Can I pick up my Unsold items before the 60-day Consignment Contract expires?
Yes, you can. But to discourage this practice, which is not favorable to Restyle, we are assessing a pre-expiration pick up fee of $10.00.
Why is the expiration date on the contract earlier than the actual expiration date you have in your system?
The date written on your contract is a tentative expiration date, which is typically 60 days from the date you dropped your items. However, the final 60-day expiration date will be adjusted based on when your items are priced and put out for sale.
What happens with my Unsold items?
You are welcome to pick up any unsold items after your 60-day contract. Simply call us 24 hours prior to your expiration date so that we can have them ready for you. We will hold unsold items for one week. Unclaimed items will be donated or become the property of Restyle.
Why are sales final / non-returnable?
The consignment software is designed in such a way that when the item is sold, the item is closed out and the share of the consignor is automatically credited to her account. To undo all that in the system is quite a time-consuming process. This is why we do not allow returns or exchanges. Instead, we encourage our customers to try on the item and make sure they are happy with the fit before they purchase the item.
How do I know that my items are priced correctly?
As a rule, Restyle prices your items one-third of the retail price. (Brand new items with price tags at 40% of retail.) The pricing staff of Restyle are extensively experienced and well-versed with current retail prices. If in doubt, Restyle double checks the prices on line. In some cases, the customer is consulted on how much the item should be priced.
